Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella
Adjacent to the beautiful Piazza di Santa Maria Novella in Florence is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. The Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella was established by the Dominican Fathers shortly after 1221, the year of their arrival in Florence. From the herbs cultivated in their gardens, the monks gained renown for their balms and creams and in 1612 the pharmacy was opened to the public.
Today the tradition of high quality and limited production is still being continued. The essences and fragrances used for their soaps, body care and home fragrances represent a unique characteristic of the pharmacy, as does the perfume from their traditional potpourri made from the flowers and herbs around Florence, also available in candle form, which emits the same fragrance when burning.
There is no animal testing and pesticides are not used. Scrupulous attention to cultivation ensures the high quality of all products from Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella.
